4 Reasons Veneers May Be Right for You

 |  developer
Dental veneers are among the most popular cosmetic dentistry procedures, and for good reason. These custom-made, wafer-thin shells affixed to the surfaces to your natural teeth, can correct many smile flaws. What’s more, the procedure is easy, pain-free, and the results are amazing. Veneers, made of porcelain or resin composite, look natural because they are custom tinted and shaped to match the rest of your teeth.

AnnMarie Olson, DDS, located in Austin, TX, has improved smiles for countless patients with custom veneers. Here, she offers an overview.

What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers are wafer-thin shells made of porcelain or resin composite, that fit over the surface of your natural teeth. Each veneer is custom-made for comfort and fit. Porcelain What does the procedure entail?

What does getting veneers entail?

First, an impression of your tooth is made and sent to a dental lab that fabricates the veneers. Once the veneer is ready, Dr. Olson prepares your tooth or teeth by removing about 1/2 millimeter of enamel from the tooth surface. That’s equal to the thickness of the veneer that will be added to your tooth’s surface. Next, the veneer is permanently cemented to your tooth. After that, your tooth is cleaned, polished.

Common reasons veneers may be right for you

1.Discoloration

Discolored or stained teeth don’t always respond to traditional teeth whitening procedures, especially if the cause is trauma or medication. In such cases, veneers are an excellent solution. They are affixed to the surface of your teeth, covering stains and discoloration.

A bonus: Veneers are stain-resistant.

2. Gaps between teeth

Have gaps between your teeth but just not up for the hassle, cost, and time of metal braces or clear aligners are unappealing, veneers offer a quick and simple and affordable fix.

3. Chipped or misshapen teeth

Dr. Olson is an expert in creating customized veneers to camouflage misshapen, broken, or chipped teeth.

4. A gummy smile

If your teeth appear short and your gum tissue too prominent — known as a gummy smile —, veneers can offer a more balanced appearance.

After your procedure

Veneers last between 7 and 15 years. Dental veneers do not require any special care. Continue to follow good oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and rinsing with an antiseptic mouthwash as you normally would.
